Sagip Kapamilya Comes to America!
SKSA Offering 30 free Certified Nursing Assistant scholarships
In these hard times, the ABS CBN Foundation USA and the Sagip Kapamilya program is now launching a new campaign to help our U.S.-based kapamilyas. Called Sagip Kapamilya sa Amerika (SKSA), the campaign aims to help our kapamilyas (literally, family members) who have recently lost their jobs by offering thirty (30) free scholarships* towards a Certified Nursing Assistant’s (CNA) license. A CNA license, which can be obtained following a two-month training period, can help open doors for immediate employment in the health- and convalescent-care industries. It is also a stepping stone towards higher educational opportunities leading to degrees as Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs).
Partnering with SKSA is the Philippine Nurses Association of Northern California [Lou – please link this to www.pnanorthcal.org (PNANC), which will be providing the certified instructors for the practical instruction. The venue for the pilot program is the American College of Nursing www.americancollegeofnursing.com in Concord, California. The pilot program begins on May 15, 2009 and classes run for eight weekends (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays) through July 18, 2009.
A second batch of scholarships shall also be offered in Northern California in September 2009, with future program replication in other parts of the United States by early 2010. SKSA hopes that it may be able to replicate the program all across the U.S. soon to help even more kapamilyas during this downturn.
To qualify for the May 15, 2009 program at the American College of Nursing in Concord, California, candidates must submit to the ABS CBN Foundation the following:
a. High School Diploma
b. Proof of Lay-off
c. Resume (Include contact details: email and phone)
d. Passing Grade on the Entrance Exam
e. Pass an Interview with the Program Director

* The thirty (30) free CNA scholarships are grants for the participating schools’ tuition fees only. No other grants corollary to or required by the campaign shall be provided by Sagip Kapamilya Sa Amerika, the ABS CBN Foundation, the Philippine Nurses Association of Northern California or any of the participating schools. Successful candidates shall be responsible for other program requirements, which may include but are not limited to: books, uniforms and nursing equipment.
