Filipino Heritage Night with the
San Francisco Giants – A Home Run for Bantay Bata!
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Filipino Heritage Night (FHN) with the San Francisco Giants scored a home run with Filipinos in the Bay Area last April 21, 2009 as more than 10,000 sports fans showed up and cheered for the hometown Giants and special guest of honor, boxing champion Manny Pacquiao. In the biggest staging of FHN at the AT&T Park, fans trooped to catch the cultural festivities and expos as well as their favorite pound-for-pound champion throwing out the game’s first pitch. Interestingly, Pacquiao found himself pitching to Giants star pitcher and Cy Young Awardee Tim Lincecum, who like all fellow Filipino-Americans, is a big fan of the Pac-man. The festive evening was capped by an exciting 8-2 Giants victory over the visiting San Diego Padres.
This year’s FHN was made even more special by a charitable donation made by the San Francisco Giants organization to several Filipino-American institutions, including the Filipino American Arts Expositions, Manilatown Heritage Foundation and Bantay Bata. From proceeds of gate receipts, the Giants donated a total of $50,000 to these charities. Thank you San Francisco Giants for coming up BIG for the Filipino!
