ABS CBN Foundation International Presents
An Evening with Martin Nievera to benefit “Sagip Kapamilya” Relief Efforts from Typhoon Sendong
Redwood City, California, January 4, 2012. ABS CBN Foundation International announced today that it will host “An Evening with Martin Nievera” at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 6 p.m. This one night performance of Martin Nievera, acclaimed balladeer and Concert King of the Philippines, is presented in partnership with Codinera-Chua Productions. It is part of a series of fundraising activities that began in December after the disastrous Typhoon Sendong ravaged the Southern part of the Philippines killing over 1500 people and displacing nearly 20,000 families.
“An Evening with Martin Nievera” will benefit Sagip Kapamilya (Saving Family Members)—a relief and assistance program directed to Filipinos who were affected by Typhoon Sendong, a storm the United Nations has called the worst typhoon disaster in the Philippines.
On December 17, 2011, the areas of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro of the Southern Philippines were hit when one month worth of rain fell in less than 2 hours thereby flooding rivers and causing landslides of properties. The majority of civilians died in their beds as the flooding came unexpectedly in the wee hours of the morning thereby catching everyone by surprise.
"I saw footage on television and I watched all of the reels and I was horrified. I mean, here we are enjoying our turkey dinner and our kababayans, our brothers and sisters back home, without any choice, are living the way they are, and some of them are gone and lost. So, this is the least I can do," said Martin.
Tickets to the event are $75 and $50 and are available at the Golden Nugget Ticketing office. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.goldennugget.com or by calling 702-386-8100 or toll free 866-946-5336. Donations to Sagip Kapamilya can also be made through the same foundation website or sent to ABS CBN Foundation International at 150 Shoreline Drive, Redwood City, CA 94065.
