Bantay Bata is One with One Kapamilya Go!

ONTARIO, California – Bantay Bata was among the big hits at the One Kapamilya Go! (OK Go!) celebration last month as parent company ABS CBN and The Filipino Channel (TFC) feted the kick off of its 15th year in North America. The non-profit arm of the ABS CBN Broadcasting Network, the ABS CBN Foundation, through its child watch campaign, Bantay Bata, marked the festivities with a fun-filled karaoke singing contest. The contest had for its main prize, a brand new Magic Sing® karaoke microphone, courtesy of Starry Starry Store.

After a morning-long elimination round, the top three scores competed in the championship round to determine the day’s winner. The three finalists included Aristotle Fandino, Gem Bandivas and Christine Panlasigui. Unlike the elimination round, however, the championship did not allow the finalists to choose their own song. They had to draw songs at random from a fish bowl and the top scorer wins the Magic Sing®.

Aristotle, who sang first, drew “I’m Not In Love” by 10cc; Gem, who sang next, drew “I Don’t Want to Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith; and in third, Christine got “I Want To Run To You” by Whitney Houston. After giving it their all, Gem Bandivas came through with the best score and emerged as the karaoke contest champ.

The Bantay Bata Karaoke Contest, though, was just one of the many fun and exciting activities that occurred all throughout the day. Aside from the numerous booths and food vendors, OK Go! featured the presence of celebrities and ABS CBN stars, including Joy Lim, Korina Sanchez, Martin Nievera, Sheryn Regis, Carol Banawa, Charice Pempengco, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo and Game Master Edu Manzano, who spiked the evening with a live playing of the popular game show, Game Ka Na Ba?

An estimated 7,000 people attended OK Go!, which paid tribute to TFC and ABS CBN’s true kapamilyas (family members) – the supporters and fans of TFC and ABS CBN and its many other product and business lines.

Among the kapamilyas, of course, are the friends and donors of the ABS CBN Foundation, who we thank generously for the donations and pledges they made throughout the day.

Aside from TFC and the ABS CBN Foundation, other brands and business units of the ABS CBN Network which participated in the day’s festivities included: Starry Starry Store, Star Kargo, UnlimiTalk/Telecom, Easy Remit, Myx and BigAtin.
